100% Linen sheets are a unique product in the world of bedding. The reason 100% linen sheets have always been so revered is really very simple:  they are cool. Linen, as a fiber, is totally different than cotton and therefore has different properties.

The best way to explain it is to recall the difference between 100% cotton sheets and poly/cotton blended sheets. One of the first things people noticed was how much "hotter" blended sheets were than cotton. That is because cotton absorbs and releases moisture easily, and it is this evaporative cooling that makes cotton a "cooler" sheet than a blended sheet.

The next step up is linen. Linen absorbs and releases moisture considerably better than cotton, and therefore 100% linen sheet is "cooler" than a 100% cotton sheet. (Obviously the same thing is true for any 100% linen fabric vs. 100% cotton fabric.) We all perspire when we sleep, so having a sheet that absorbs and releases moisture is really essential to a comfortable night's rest.

It is absolutely true that 100% linen sheets come with a drawback - they wrinkle. Over time and frequent usage a 100% linen fabric does relax and the wrinkling does decrease. But on the plus side, there is nothing like a 100% linen sheet on a hot summer night.
